Remembering my friend and tearful buddy. My “Grandma” Fisher

My mind has been flooded with so many wonderful memories of my dear friend and “Grandma” Mrs. Fisher.

I felt like I needed a place to write about it.. and well, that’s what this blog is for 🙂

Just yesterday Mrs. Fisher left this world and her tired body and is now with Jesus forever! How amazing is that?? I have to admit I’m a little bit (or a lot) jealous! It’s not easy being the ones left behind. But God is good!

I remember as a little girl, having backyard summer Bible clubs in Mrs. Fisher’s back yard. I also remember being told that the lady who lived with the Fisher’s for a little while was from the pregnancy help center and had decided to keep her baby. The Fisher’s had opened up their home for her to be able to get her life together and I don’t think she was the only one they helped in that way!!

My sister and I got to go to their house a lot when our parents were in charge of the “Young at Heart” Sunday School group and we would go along for potlucks, Bible Studies and even field trips 🙂

I’ll never forget how her house was filled with photos of loved ones! And how you just felt like you were walking into their memories!!

I was able to get to know her “Son” John, when I had the privilege of teaching the special needs class at church for a little while.

Mrs Fisher made precious baby blankets for every baby at church! 🙂 And before my sister and I had kids, she made us each one to put in our hope chests! I have cuddled both my boys in that blanket many times!  And I’m so glad she was able to hold them and watch them grow a bit!! 🙂

Mrs. Fisher, through all the years, became my mightiest prayer warrior and my tearful buddy! 🙂 She told me once that she considered her tears to be a language that Jesus understood. And since then I’ve also considered my tears to be my love language to Jesus.

I’ve often wondered how many times my name has been written in her prayer journals.. She was so faithful to pray for me through all of my journeys!

One time in particular I will never forget. I was praying about a boy 🙂 And I told Mrs. Fisher that I was praying that the Lord would make things very clear to me.  A little while later, I told her that the answer was no. And that I was trusting the Lord. She replied, “Well, that’s not what He told me!” haha

She walked down the aisle at our wedding a couple of years later 🙂

Through out all of these years, She truly has become part of our family. I will always treasure the Holidays and normal days we got to spend with her! She truly is a special lady, who loved the Lord with all her heart! And she loved me and my family! I am blessed to have had her love for so long!

I don’t know what I think about a world that doesn’t have Mrs. Fisher in it.

But, I know the God she served for so long and trusted… is faithful to us all!

She loved the old Hymns! And during times of sadness, I’m always drawn back to them too..

So, here’s a good oldie to end this post with!

  1. There’s a land that is fairer than day,
    And by faith we can see it afar;
    For the Father waits over the way
    To prepare us a dwelling place there.

    • Refrain:
      In the sweet by and by,
      We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
      In the sweet by and by,
      We shall meet on that beautiful shore.
  2. We shall sing on that beautiful shore
    The melodious songs of the blessed;
    And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
    Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.
  3. To our bountiful Father above,
    We will offer our tribute of praise
    For the glorious gift of His love
    And the blessings that hallow our days.

I Thessalonians 4: 13-18
 ” Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him…..”
