Instant Pot Brown Rice

Every one seems to make their Instant Pot brown Rice a little different. But, this is how I do it and it comes our perfectly fluffy every time!

Start with a cup of water at the bottom of the instant pot and the metal trivet. Instant pot brown rice

Next in oven safe bowl. ( That fits inside the Instant pot) place your water, rice, and butter.  stir.

I love this Pyrex one!

Mine is a 6 cup!  instant pot side dishes

Then place bowl on top of trivet inside the Instant Pot. Close lid, make sure valve is set to seal.

Instant Pot Brown Rice

Set Manual for 19 minutes.

I usually let it Naturally Pressure Release a little bit, mostly because I get busy doing other things. But, if you are in a hurry you can manually release the pressure when it stops cooking.

Fluff with a fork, add salt to taste (and I usually add more butter too!)

  1. Place 1 cup of water in bottom of Instant Pot insert with a metal trivet.
  2. In an oven safe bowl (be sure it fits inside your IP) place the rice, water, butter and mix together. Place bowl on top of trivet inside IP.
  3. Lock lid onto Instant Pot. Set valve to seal. Set on Manual (High Pressure) for 19 minutes
  4. You can let it Naturally pressure release for 5 minutes if you'd like. or if you are in a hurry, go ahead and open it.

Instant Pot Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce is one of my favorite sides, one of those things that completes that traditional Thanksgiving meal!  It seems like a necessity to me, in order to have that perfect bite with a little turkey, a little gravy, cranberry sauce. yuumm!!

 

Another great idea with this cranberry sauce is an appetizer!

Place a block of cream cheese on a tray (softened) and pour this cranberry sauce over it. serve with crackers or even graham crackers.

Its sure to be a favorite and you can rest easy because the instant pot has done the work for you!

Instructions
  1. Add the berries and the water. close lid and set valve to seal. cook for 1 minute.
  2. NPR for 7 minutes then Manually release the remaining pressure.
  3. Set to Saute mode and add the sweetener, vanilla and orange zest and Juice.
  4. Stir well, saute for 2-3 minutes as sauce thickens.
  5. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Pour into a dish or on top of cream cheese.

Instructions
  1. Set IP to saute Throw in chopped onion and mushrooms. Saute until onions are translucent and mushrooms are tender.
  2. Meanwhile take flour, garlic powder, basil, oregano, and parsley and mix in a gallon size baggie! ( can you tell I hate dishes? but you can always do this in a shallow dish too.)
  3. place the chicken into the baggie and gently shake until chicken is coated.
  4. Now here is where I would like to tell you to just brown the chicken in the Instant Pot.. however when I try to do this, it never ends well.. the coating sticks to the bottom and then begins to burn... I find it's just easier to get a frying pan out and brown the chicken a couple minutes each side.
  5. While chicken is browning on the stove you can start adding the parmesan cheese, crushed garlic, marinara sauce, chicken broth, and red wine to the IP. Mix it up and add just a pinch of pepper and salt, remember you can always add more later.
  6. transfer the chicken to the IP and cover it with the sauce.
  7. secure the lid and make sure the valve is set to seal. Set to manual for 11 minutes. While this comes to pressure (took about 10 minutes) and cooks, you can prepare some noodles and bread.. or whatever you want to serve with it.
  8. When cooking is done, let it Naturally Pressure Release (NPR) for 5 - 10 minutes. Smother it in mozzarella cheese and more Parmesan before serving. Serve with Pasta and bread!

I’ve been really trying to convert some of our old  crock pot recipes to be prepared in the Instant Pot. We have a lot of crock pot recipes, I use to grab my crock pot 2-3 times a week. and Now thanks to the Instant Pot I haven’t touched a crock pot in about a year and a half!

  1. turn your Instant Pot on to Saute and allow to heat up a minute. Add Oil and swish around, add meat. Allow the meat to brown, stirring frequently to brown all sides. Be sure to scrape up any bits on the bottom of the pot.
  2. Add bullion and enchilada sauce, stir and secure the lid Make sure the valve is set to seal and press pressure cook Adjust time to 12 minutes. This came to pressure in under 10 minutes because the pot is already hot.
  3. Let the meat Naturally Pressure Release for 5-10 minutes. Then release the remaining pressure manually.
  4. Meanwhile, heat up the refried beans (using the microwave or a saucepan on the stove top.)
  5. Place Tortillas on your plates ( I like deep dish plates for all that yummy sauce) Spoon some beans on each tortilla and a spoonful of meat roll up the tortilla.
  6. Pour sauce over the top and sprinkle with cheese. ( If you are making this right away the cheese will melt but if not, you can stick this under the broiler for a minute or two) We love to finish this off with a dollop of sour cream and dip tortilla chips in the sauce!

Should I Throw away my Instant Pot?

Perhaps you have heard the news and now you are asking yourself,

” Should I throw away my Instant Pot?”

Recently it became big news that some products from Instant Pot have been recalled. There has been a lot of confusion surrounding this recall and I’ve even heard of some people suggesting that everyone should throw their pot away!

Please DONT! 🙂 The recall is real, but most likely does not affect you at all. And here’s why:

Instant Pot (the company that makes the very popular pressure cookers) has quite a few different products under their brand name. The product that was recalled was NOT any of their pressure cooker models.

It was a mulit cooker called the Gem and it is only sold at walmart stores. It’s sort of like Instant pots version of a fancy crock pot, if you will. With the Gem you can do things like steam rice, roast, and slow cook but does not pressure cook! Anyways, I don’t know a lot about it… mostly because with the many pressure cooker options offered by Instant pot, I don’t see a need to have one.

But, if you happen to have the Gem Mulit cooker.. then yes it was recalled ( you still shouldn’t throw it away, you can take it back to walmart)

Instant Pot Gem Recall Details
The recall: 104,000 Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicookers. Affected batch codes include 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746. The batch code is printed on a silver label on the bottom of the multi-cooker.

If you own an Instant Pot pressure cooker like many of us do…. please please keep cooking!!! Of course, if you really don’t want it, you can send it to me…but there isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t use it and LOVE it!

So, you have an Instant Pot now! Yay!!

So you are either super excited and ready to make anything and everything OR you feel a bit intimidated and wondering why you insisted on following this instant pot fad…

well, either way, This post is for you! You don’t NEED accessories to make a lot of things in the Instant Pot but there are some super handy and fun accessories to help from anything from basic meals to fancy desserts!!

Also, if you are new to the Instant Pot, I hope you’ll explore this blog a bit to help you feel more comfortable (or just give you some good ideas to try) like my recipe search engines (most of them are Instant Pot ones) or this very first  review from when I got my first Instant Pot!!!

 

So here is a list of some awesome accessories:

Instant Pot liner – A second stainless steel liner can be really useful!

Here’s a 6 qrt stainless, 6 qrt ceramic, 8 qrt ceramic

Spring Form Pan – cheese cakes, brownies, lasagna

Steamer basket – veggies (makes pulling them out even easier)

Also these ikea steamers fit 3 in at once!!!  These are cheaper at Ikea if you have one near you!!

Extra sealing rings – the colored options make it possible to have a designated savory//sweet ring. to avoid cross contamination and smells. Genuine IP rings

  • Be advised, using sealing rings that aren’t from Instant Pot will make your warranty void.

glass lid – use whenever not cooking under pressure – popcorn, saute’ setting etc.

silicone lid– great for when you want to transfer your whole liner into the fridge, like when you are making yogurt.

Red Instant Pot Mitts and oven gloves – ever need to grab your liner or the bowl you have inside the liner (pip cooking) when it’s still hot? yeah me too.. these save your fingers!!!

ramekins – personal cheesecakes ( you can use mason jars too!)

Stackable steamers – great for doing your whole meal at once!!

Egg mold – like the popular Starbucks egg bites but at home!

cover If you want to keep it on the counter but covered! 🙂
