speak life giving words

One of the most important jobs we have as parents is speaking truth and life into these little hearts!

This world will tell them lies, their whole life… And sadly even those of us close to them can aid in breaking down their purpose, and uniqueness.

I know it’s not easy to do this 100% of the time.. I know that I can get irritated over things way more then I’d like to admit. And that truthfully these little guys don’t always act like the amazing loved human beings that they are. In fact they know how to test out their sin nature pretty early.
But one of the ways I’m learning to consistently give them purpose and love and life is to pray truth over them!! In prayer I can tell them, as I’m speaking to the Lord, that they are special, loved, made perfectly, good boys that can choose good choices! I try to pray over the boys truthful, things. Things that are true even when I’m feeling beat, even when they haven’t been obeying or it seems like they aren’t learning to be loving and kind. I can tell them that God didn’t make a mistake when they made them and that the creator of the universe made them for a mighty purpose.

Our value is not made up by all the bad choices we make, the unkind things we do, or the lessons we struggle to learn.. Our value was determined long ago and one day I pray our boys will grasp how an amazing God hand crafted them and filled them with his love and a wonderful plan!

It breaks my heart to hear someone that could use their influence in a child’s life for love and godliness but instead labels them trouble or destructive or essentially broken… I am guilty of falling into this.. Maybe you’ve heard me refer to my kids as “crazy” or something like that and that makes me sad.. Even in a joking manner I am not using the life giving words I could in those moments. Yes my boys are full of energy, they are Ruff and tumble sometimes, they have a lot of lessons they are trying to learn about how to treat others and listen to wisdom. But they aren’t bad boys, they aren’t broken or terrors or wreckers.

They are little boys who were created by a God who loves them just the way He made them, a God who cannot wait for them to fall in love with Him.. And I wait in excited anticipation for that too!!
Until then, I will try to speak the words He speaks to all of us about our value and our ability to follow Him, to love others, and choose right!

And I’m determined to take out the empty, hurtful words in my vocabulary completely.

Who needs to hear truth, beyond what they may be feeling or the world may be telling them today? What words of life can you speak today?

Let’s do this together! 🙂

Kitchen appliances

Wow! If you haven’t shopped for appliances lately, you’ll be surprised by all there is out there!! I know I was like a kid in a candy store….

Can I just say that as a whole this project has been a bit overwhelming? I feel like I shouldn’t even say that, since I am so abundantly blessed to get to build a new kitchen.. but there are a ton of things to decide and learn. Do you know how many cook tops there are? Or how much power a range hood needs to have?? yeah me neither! hahaha But I’m trying!

I am having a lot of fun learning about the different things we can incorporate into the kitchen and how it’s done! Thanks Youtube and pinterest!

But, boy oh boy! once you’ve made one choice you have 5 other decisions to sift through based on it.. What color cabinets? Will that match with the floor?  What is the difference between a plinth and a toe kick anyway?? How many outlets do we need/want, what should they look like?  Thankfully we have great friends who are doing so much for us!

Anyways, it is super fun and I totally want to buy power tools now! My new past time is walking through Lowes and Home Depot and I don’t even mind it! 🙂

Anyways, back to appliances! We discovered Sears Outlet!! And found a fantastic deal on our wall oven and dishwasher. Sears Outlet sells items that are labeled “scratch and dent” so these are open box, floor display models, and such. But  both of our appliances came with no visible scratches or dents in them. the Sales man couldn’t even find one to record on our sales slip!! And yet we got them both for 45-55% off!

We also plan on going here for our fridge when the time comes (the fridge is one of the things we have decided to wait and save up for later)

check it out:

We have also found a few things on Amazon of course!

We sure do love Amazon!

This cooktop is one of the most exciting things for the new kitchen! I finally get to have a gas cooktop! So it took me a little while to choose this one. It’s a GE Cafe

And look at this salt box I ordered:

We also just picked up a built-in Microwave at Ikea! * Ikea appliances are from whirlpool!   Ryan found it in the as is department for 45% off!! It had been used as a display model. Plus, because we were there purchasing our cupboards on one of the last day of their kitchen sale, we received a gift card with 15% of our purchase price back!! So, totally paid for the microwave and some of my list of fun accessories 🙂

Sick Days Here at Love and Scribbles

Anyone else out there feel like as soon as sickness comes to your house..everything falls apart?? seriously, everything!

We’ve had a stomach bug for a couple of days and it doesn’t help that I was one of the victims this time around but, there is something about grumpiness, and sick kids that makes me throw my hands up and kind of give up…. besides the continual laundry that just comes with sickness… I haven’t looked at our dirty clothes, barely been able to keep up with our daily dishes.. and the truth is, it doesn’t even bother me! I have no desire to keep up with those things.

Instead our 2 year old is in the same clothes he woke up in yesterday, yep i said it! and our 4 year old can’t decide how to act when he is sick so he bounces from being a zombie on the couch ( dramatically sighing and moaning the whole time) to jumping around because he is “bored”. seriously, how can he still have so much energy even with a fever?

Both of them feeling very needy and so I fill their water cups and get them pillows, try to find movies they would like to watch and puzzle/book time has happened a couple of times too!

And I know I know, the dishes don’t matter, my floors can always be swept later, and we will come out of this little bug pretty much ok… but, I think times like these remind me how much of a controller I am. How I like my ducks all lined up in a row and to be in control of my schedule and the happenings around me.   Maybe it’s time for me to pause, and feel how blessed I am. Truth is, a little stomach bug is nothing compared to some trials. And I am beyond blessed to be the one who is here to fill the cups and find the snacks, fluff the pillows  and even clean the puke.

And I also think it’s ok to look forward to bed time for all of us! 🙂

haha well, that’s where I’ve been for a couple of days

Hope all is well in your homes and that whatever you are in the middle of today you can stop and notice the beauty of the love and scribbles all around you!

Gift cards and saving money!

** This blog may contain affiliate links, shopping through them helps pay for my caffeine addiction and maybe a pair of shoes, thanks so much! 🙂

Did you know there are websites out there that have discounted gift cards for sale????

Sometimes you might get a gift card to a place you don’t like, or maybe don’t have a location near you or something… these sites will buy them from you and then sell them to people who want them for a discount. Its genius really!

There are a few websites out there that list sites with gift cards. But I want to caution you to make sure you know the companies policies for getting what you are expecting and returns and such!

We decided this could be a way to help us save a little in the kitchen budget since we knew we would be buying a lot of products from Home Depot and Lowes. We ended up saving  a good size chunk and had a great experience with one company in particular, Raise.com

button

Check out the selection here!

We have only purchased gift cards for those two hardware stores so far but there are sooooo many different gift cards to choose from, we will definitely be buying more…  how about restaurants? Starbucks? Grocery stores? Going on a trip soon? how about saving with hotel and travel gift cards before you plan it?

A little about our experience….

One of the e- cards we purchased for Home Depot was delivered to my email but when I went to purchase something online it came back with a 0 balance. Since this card was suppose to be for nearly $500. I started to freak out just a bit.  I spoke to someone on Home Depots live chat, they checked the balance and said they also saw a 0 balance and that the remainder of the card had been used in some store in Georgia. ( I had this conversation emailed to me for my records) I then called Raise customer service and held my breath, hoping for a good experience and a quick fix!!

It was wonderful!! I explained what happened and without any trouble at all they said they would refund us the amount we spent on the card!!! He was glad to hear I had checked with the store first and had a copy of my conversation.. I forwarded that to them for their records!!

The whole interaction was pleasant and painless! Our refund was credited to our account within a couple of days. and because it was so great and they really stand by their 100% guarantee so we decided to keep shopping with them!  I think you’ll enjoy saving with Raise.com as well! So, check it out

(So far we have saved $245.00 at stores we would be shopping at anyways for our kitchen!!)

Serving and counting…

This post is just some of the notes I took during Sunday School yesterday on James 1, it may seem a little bit like rambling, but I thought I’d share them anyways!

Sunday School Slide.

James 1:1  James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ…”

In the description of a bond servant it says The will of the bond servant is to be consumed in the will of the master.

The bond servant is to lay down everything, needing nothing of their own will, considering only their masters will.

My thoughts began this way…… that laying down my will to Christ seems to be do able most of the time. Because I know I can trust Christ’s will to be good for me, that what He wills is life and godliness for me, blessings over blessings. Because He has proven himself true I can place my trust in Him.

But then I started thinking about husbands and wives…..

How do you do this as a wife and a mother? How do you forget your will entirely when sometimes your will feels like needs unfulfilled? And sometimes those desires are only pretty basic “needs” like a little more sleep! 🙂

But isn’t trusting our husbands and the life God has given us really all about trusting God’s faithfulness? I have to choose to believe that He didn’t make a mistake in putting me in these positions of wife and mother. And trust that He always has me covered! My real and actual needs are taken care of and it is sometimes my emotions that cause me to feel otherwise.

Here’s another definition Pastor Luke gave in Sunday School…

” Count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations”  or various trials.

“count” – To lead. Primarily signifies to lead and then to consider. The picture is that of one leading his or her mind through a reasoning process to arrive at a conclusion. It involves careful thought, not quick decision. It involves a conscious judgment resting on deliberate weighing of facts.

This just seemed like another needed reminder that I really do need to choose to set aside my emotions. Those thoughts that creep up and cause me to feel like I’m taken for granted or not getting my needs met. Or even those emotions that whisper lies of not being the one my family needs, and not being up for the challenge. All of these are feelings, not based on facts at all. So, I need to CHOOSE JOY! Count it.

We can stop and realize that God is at work, and in trusting Him we can have joy!

In the wonderful song, Great is thy faithfulness,  There is a line that says ” All I have needed thy hand hath provided.” And isn’t that a sweet truth?  Seems to me when I’m complaining about not having enough or not being enough I’m pretty much telling the Lord that He hasn’t provided.

Only one of us is right 🙂
